High calcium hydrated lime (calcium hydroxide) is widely used in water treatment, construction, and agriculture for its high purity and customizable grades, requiring strict safety protocols and suitable for industrial and select food-grade applications.
High calcium hydrated lime, also known as calcium hydroxide, is a white, odorless solid. It forms when quicklime reacts with water. With a high pH of around 12.5 in solution at 25°C, its alkaline nature makes it a key compound in various industries.
high calcium hydrated lime typical ranges are below:
The production begins with high – quality limestone. After mining, the limestone is crushed and calcined in a kiln. This transforms calcium carbonate into calcium oxide (quicklime). Then, quicklime reacts with a precisely controlled amount of water in a hydrator. The exothermic reaction (CaO + H₂O → Ca(OH)₂ + heat) produces high calcium hydrated lime, which remains a dry powder.
High calcium hydrated lime can be hazardous. It’s a skin irritant (Skin Irrit. 2), causing redness and itching. It can severely damage eyes (Eye Dam. 1). Inhaling its dust may irritate the respiratory system (STOT SE 3), and long – term inhalation may cause cancer (Carc. 1A). Repeated exposure can damage organs (STOT RE 1). Thus, it’s only for professional use, and certain groups should avoid it.
It’s also known as chemical hydrate, Hi – Calcium Hydroxide Commercial Grade, Hyd Chem, Hydrate Construction, Hydrate FGT, Hydrate Drinking Water.
Store in a well – ventilated place, keep the container sealed, and avoid storing near water, strong acids, and other incompatible materials.
It can be used for pH adjustment in some food processes if it meets food – grade standards. But due to risks, it’s mainly for industrial and non – food – contact uses.
Flush eyes with plenty of water or salt water (20 – 30 °C) for at least 30 minutes. Remove contact lenses if possible. Keep rinsing and seek medical help immediately.
